Diamond Testing – SYNTHdetect XL

Guide to using the SYNTHdetect diamond testing machine.

SYNTHdetect XL is the latest addition to the De Beers Group’s Group Industry Services detection and screening tool. Can replace the standard base and
has the advantage of holding larger jewellery items as well
as multiple pieces of jewellery

DIAMOND TESTING CAPABILITY: loose diamonds and diamonds set in jewelry.

• The SynthDetect XL base can also hold up to 85 rings on its 3 axes (x,y,z) plate.
• Maximum jewellery piece height (tray to focal point) = 30mm
• Maximum variation in scanning height = 20mm
• Dimensions: 558mm (w) x 685mm (d) x 169mm (h) or
492mm (h)

1. Cases where the machine produces REFER results?
   • There are a small number of natural stones that have fluorescence characteristics similar to synthetic stones.
   • Not natural diamonds.
   • Fancy diamonds will be difficult to identify.
   • CVD/HPHT synthetic diamonds.

2. SYNTH detect needs to be calibrated once every 30 days. The software will notify you when it’s time to calibrate. If calibration is overdue, the machine can still operate.
